Is the Bible only a collection of legends, or is it grounded in real history? Biblical archaeology has uncovered places, inscriptions, buildings, and burial sites connected with people, places, and events described in Scripture.
You will learn about a few of the discoveries connected with Nazareth, Bethlehem, Capernaum, the Pool of Bethesda, Peter, Caiaphas, Pontius Pilate, and Roman crucifixion. These discoveries do not save us or prove Christian faith in a laboratory only Jesus can save. But archaeology can demonstrate that the Bible speaks about real people, real locations, real political leaders, and real historical settings.
Scripture names cities, rulers, religious leaders, political tensions, and physical landmarks that could be investigated. From the five colonnades described in John 5 to the inscription bearing Pontius Pilate’s name, biblical archaeology helps illuminate the historical world in which Jesus lived, suffered, died, and rose again.
The Christian gospel is not merely an inspiring idea. It is good news about what God has done in history through Jesus Christ.
