You’re Doing Hospitality Wrong (Here’s What the Bible Says)

Released: May 6, 2026

Most of us grew up thinking Christian community meant having people over to a perfectly clean home with a home-cooked meal and a curated playlist. And because that feels impossible we just… don’t do it. But what if that’s not what biblical hospitality is at all?

In this episode, we break down the difference between entertaining and true biblical hospitality and why that difference changes everything. Entertaining is about impressing people. Hospitality is about serving them. One is performance. The other is presence. And the Bible is pretty clear about which one God is calling us to.

We dig into 1 Peter 4:9, the story of Martha and Mary in Luke 10, and Romans 15:7 and pull out a definition of hospitality that actually fits the Christian lifestyle we’re all trying to live. Spoiler: it has nothing to do with your home, your cooking, or whether your couch is Instagram-worthy.

In this episode:
• The real difference between entertaining and biblical hospitality
• Why God’s command to be hospitable has nothing to do with perfection
• What the Greek word for hospitality actually means (hint: it’s about strangers)
• How Martha and Mary show us presence always wins over preparation
• 4 simple ways to start practicing real hospitality this week

You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be present.

“I’m not going to see the dust on your mantelpiece if I’m looking you eye to eye and you’re showing me how much you care about me.”
